About the Island of Preko

Preko is a small, picturesque village located on the island of Ugljan, just off the coast of the city of Zadar in Croatia. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and traditional Mediterranean atmosphere. Preko itself features a charming harbor, narrow streets, and a few cozy cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy local cuisine.

The island of Ugljan, where Preko is situated, is often referred to as the "green island" because of its abundance of olive groves, fig trees, and vineyards. It is a popular destination for those seeking peace and nature, with numerous hiking and biking trails winding through the scenic landscape.

Climbing Sv. Mihovil Mountain

The mountain I climbed is called Sv. Mihovil (Saint Michael), and it is one of the most notable landmarks on the island of Ugljan. The summit of the mountain is about 250 meters high and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and the city of Zadar across the sea.

The hike to the top of Sv. Mihovil is approximately 6 kilometers long and takes around 4 hours for a round trip. The trail is well-marked and offers a varied mix of steep sections and more gradual climbs. Along the way, you'll pass through ancient olive groves and traditional stone walls.

At the top of the mountain stands an old fortification from the 13th century, which was once used for defense against pirates. Today, it is a popular spot for tourists to enjoy the panoramic views and the rich history of the area.
